A 17.8 kWh battery also provides a short electric range of 42 km. A good note for the engine's sound, which quickly makes you forget its small size and sounds more like a sports car.

On the other hand, performance enthusiasts will be delighted by the new 3.3L in-line 6-cylinder turbo, available in two power levels: 280 hp and 332 lb-ft for the base version, and a variant boosted to 340 hp and 369 lb-ft for the top-of-the-range edition, which does however require premium gasoline. The 8-speed automatic transmission fitted to all three versions is also a Mazda in-house design.

Despite its imposing size, the CX-90 is surprisingly agile and pleasant to drive, thanks to its double-wishbone suspension. The Kinetic Posture Control system also intelligently adjusts braking for safer, more stable cornering. It's also backed up by an intelligent all-wheel drive system that transfers torque quickly, or transforms itself into remarkable support when it's time to get through tougher conditions.
